In operation of a ship, the bunker is Oils of HFO. and MDO., Ship's Oils are the fuel to power the ship's machinery and main engine.

The Bunker stem survey for a ship is service to calculate a quantity of bunker (Metric Ton - MT) before and after bunkering (transferring of oils from a tanks of barge into a ship's tanks) in certifying.

In addition, the sampling for oils, sealing and reporting can be used for various purposes, for example:

1. for storage on board of a vessel

2. purpose of oil quality analysis

3. As evidence of dispute, if the quality is not in accordance with the specifications, it may cause damage to the ship's machinery.

4. Sample for Marpol

5. for bunker tanker owner

6. many other purposes

The Ship owner and the tank supplier (oil seller), agree to buy and sell a ship’s engine oils (HFO. and MDO) under

1. Quantity of HFO traded (MT in Ton & Volume in Litters for HSFO, VLSFO, VLSFO, 0.1% ULSFO and LSMGO)

2. Quantity of MDO traded (MT in Ton & Volume in Litters)

3. Date of supply and Bunker delivery note

4. Quality of HFO and MDO traded (Specialist, 0.5% Sulphur content mm < ISO 8754:2003, Viscosity, Density, Water content, Flash Point,    

5. A position of bunkering

The Master of ship and Chief Engineer (CE) are busy on the ship; they cannot control all of activities of pumping and receipt of oils from the tank barge to the ship.

Moreover, there are many reasons that ship owners often hire the service of marine engine oil inspection and surveyor of  AIM Control (AIM Group®).

1. The results of CE's oil delivery calculation are not accurate and are not legal proof.

2. CE does not have the skills to control the loss and shortage (lack) of quantity of oil delivered from the oil barge to the ship.

3. On board, there is no oil sampling device

4. On board, there is no oil quality analyzer and the crew is not capable of analyzing oil quality

5. Avoiding fraud in oil delivery and receipt of oils.
