Tree age inspection

"Tree age inspection" is to determine the age of a tree by checking the tree growth circle  (xylem rings) on the cross-section at the position of comparison of the tree trunk with the wood cell Specimen Standard. Each tree growth circle represents one year of growth of the tree, creating the development of the wood cell layers that change with the seasons.

How to monitor the age of a tree by counting the tree growth circle:

1. Tree sampling:

- Method of cutting the tree trunk horizontally along a plane perpendicular to the vertical direction of the tree.

Advantages: fast and accurate.

Disadvantages: The tree will die.

- Method of drilling into the tree trunk: drilling into the tree trunk along a plane perpendicular to the trunk at one location.

Advantages: The tree is likely to survive after sampling and is accurate.

Disadvantages: Sample preservation requires care.

Some steps of sampling the tree trunk performed by AIM Group surveyors and inspectors, experts:

 

a. Select the tree and measurement position:

Select a tree whose age you want to determine and measure the trunk diameter at a height of 1.3 meters from the ground.

b. Take a core sample:

Use the AIM core drill to take a cylindrical wood sample from the trunk at the measured location.

c. Measure the tree circumference at the sampling location

Note:

Growth rate and number of tree rings may vary depending on the tree species and living environment.

The wood age result has an error of 10% to 15%.

2. Contents of the tree age inspection services:

+ Complete the sample for observation.

+ Determine the number of annual growth circle on the tree sample

+ Compare and check with standard specimens.

+ Check according to standard documents.

+ Complete the report and issue the Certificate of tree age inspected results.
